 The HSUS states: "When we buy a pet or even shop at a store that sells puppies, we contribute to a heartless underground industry that forces dogs to spend their entire lives in cages, constantly breeding to support consumer demand for puppies." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ PawChic, and millions of other human animals, agree. I am devastated by how some stores and breeders are rumored to destroy and dispose of puppies and kittens not sold and, therefore deemed "worthless". The torture and horrifying conditions suffered by helpless lives at puppy mills is unacceptable and it is up to Americans to collectively make their voices heard until the government intervenes in a productive, humane and respectable manner. NOBODY’s right to "operate a business" should supersede another life’s right to humane treatment. NO business should be allowed to operate if their operations harm another life in any way. The puppy mill practice must stop, and the best way to make a difference is to ADOPT your beloved friend. It is only when the demand stops, that the greater good can come for those beautiful and innocent souls condemned in the name of profit. What real sacrifice is one making when choosing to save a life, rather than purchasing one? Yes, those lives for sale are also valuable, but again, NO change will come unless we dry up the demand for "puppies for sale". ONLY then will the underground operations cease, and humane breeders be regulated and change the current path of pain. http://stoppuppymills.org

DONATE MORE THAN MONEY TO ANIMAL RESCUES! If you're looking to assist a variety of rescues, or just one near you, then you might be interested to know that money isn't the only donation you can give! While rescues ("no kill" housing for abandoned pets) are always in need of cash, they often need a variety of supplies too. Sometimes I prefer to donate supplies to a rescue that I'm not familiar with because then I know what I donate is directly going to benefit the animals. I often like to hit discount stores like BIG LOTS to buy donation supplies. I've found good quality (albeit not attractive) collars and leads, adequate beds, towels, etc. at Big Lots for $1.00 (collars/leads) to $20 for "better than nothing" beds. It's best to call a rescue and inquire what supplies they may need before heading over. CAUTION: Please do NOT buy food from grocery stores and Big Lots to donate. These items, in my opinion and shared by many experts, are of poor (if not horrendous) quality. Visit our Nutrition section for more details.
If you live in the Los Angeles area, Much Love Animal Rescue has posted a list of needed items on their website including: * pet food
* pet treats
* non-escapable "Premiere" brand collars
* leashes
* bowls
* blankets
* towels
* kitty litter
* cat carriers
* Advantage or Frontline flea treatment
* wet wipes
* digital camera
* tents for adoption or market umbrellas
* animal crates
* dog beds and covers
* newspapers...
Newspapers! How easy is that helpful item to supply? If we all did something small, we could all collectively do something HUGE in assisting the very souls that look to us for love and kindness. As always, we THANK YOU FOR CARING.

Additionally, Peta has found horrific treatment of bred animals and birds by one of PetSmart’s major suppliers. Again, this speaks to the lack of regulation and humane treatment of animal brokers out for nothing more than profit. PawChic appreciates every person who takes the time to encourage change in stores from major chains to mom-n-pop shops.
